Congratulations to all 7th and 8th Grade Orchestra Participants in receiving Excellent Ratings for the annual CODA Festival!

Congratulations also goes out to our 6th Grade Orchestra on a awesome and successful job in the annual String Jamboree!

Parents and Students please be advised of all of our upcoming Spring events:

High Note Festival/ Six Flags: Saturday, May 3, 2008

Students will have a fun filled day of music performance and a fun day in the park.

Students are to report at Cooper Middle School by 8 AM to leave on the buses by 8:15 AM.

Students will return to Cooper Middle School between 7:45PM-8:00PM

8th Grade Students will be traveling to Orlando, Fl. (Walt Disney World) for fun and performance!

May 7-10, 2008

**(There will be a Parent Meeting for all participants going to Disney on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at 7PM in the Cooper Theater)

**Spring Concert for grades 6-8 will take place on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at 7PM in the Cooper Theater.

(Please come out and show your support and watch your children in their final performance of the year!)

**Upcoming After-School Rehearsals:

Tuesday, April 29, 2008--High Note Festival Participants ONLY! (4:30-5:45PM)

Thursday, May 1, 2008--Spring Concert Rehearsal (For all grades) (4:30-5:45PM)

CODA FESTIVAL!

7th and 8th Grade Orchestra is preparing for the CODA Festival!

The CODA Festival will be held this year at Garrett Middle School.

7th Grade wil be going on Monday, March 10, 2008

8th Grade will be going on Tuesday, March 11, 2008

Students can be picked up from Garrett Middle School and or be picked up from Cooper Middle School at 8:20PM.

Getting in gear for the New Year!!

Hello and Happy New Year to all Parents and Students:

The students are doing a tremendous job in their classes and working extra hard on their upcoming concerts/performances.

Parents and Students please be aware of the fast approaching dates for the months of January-March.

Fiddle Club will resume practice on Tuesday, January 29, 2008

8th Grade Disney Participants time is fast approaching for the next payment: Money is due for student/chaperone on February 15, 2008. Fee: $100

PRE-CODA Festival will be here at Cooper Middle School for grades 7th and 8th at 7PM on Thursday, February 28, 2008.

CODA Festival will be held at Garrett Middle School this year.

7th Grade Orchestra: March 10, 2008

8th Grade Orchestra: March 11, 2008

Time: TBA

6th Grade String Jamboree will be held at Floyd Middle School on March 25, 2008.

Parents please be advised that students must practice in order to be prepared for the above events. Practice sheets are due the first day (Monday) of every week. They are 15% of your child's grade. Every student should average 60 minutes a week per practice sheet.

Parents and Students,

We are fast approaching our Winter Concert which will feature our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Orchestra's. The concert date is Thursday, December 6, 2007 at 7:00PM.

Parents please be aware of the proper concert attire.

Ladies: White button down blouse/shirt, black skirt (knee length when sitting) or pants/slacks, black tights/socks, black dress shoes.

Gentlemen: White button down dress/polo shirt, black dress pants, black socks, black dress shoes.

ABSOLUTELY NO JEANS OR TENNIS SHOES ARE ALLOWED! FAILURE TO FOLLOW DRESS CODE WILL RESULT IN STUDENT NOT BEING ABLE TO PERFORM IN THE CONCERT!

Parents we will have a after school rehearsal on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 4:30-5:30PM. This is for all grades (6, 7, and 8th). This rehearsal will give the students an opportunity to rehearse as a full orchestra. Students are not given this opportunity during regular school hours due to split periods. Parents please be aware that pick up will be promptly at 5:30PM.

Students I encourage you to practice over the holiday break to perfect your music.

Disney Deadlines are fast approaching!

8th grade Parents/Students please be aware that the final deadline for this year's Disney Trip Funds is on November 19, 2007. A fee of $100 is due for student/chaperone. If payment is not made in a timely manner it could affect your child's spot for the trip. Please contact me with any questions or any financial concerns. Thank you!!

Please be aware that you will have a break from payment for the months of December and January, and payment of funds will resume in the month of February.

Guitars--Music Appreciation

Parents and Students please stay up to date with all current assignments. Please check I-Parent frequently. Please be mindful that Participation plays an important role in this class.

Gutar Pass-offs are a requirement to move on in the course:

We are off to a wonderful  2nd Nine Weeks in the 7th grade Music Appreciation class. We are learning about the many different origins of music.

Parents and Students please be aware of the following materials that are needed for this course:

Parents and Students participation is a big percentage of the class!!

Mark your Calenders!!

To all Orchestra Students there are very important dates that are fast approaching. Please make a note on your calenders.

8th Grade Disney Participants: Disney Trip Fee Deadlines

October 19-- $100 for students and $100 for chaperones

November 16- $100 for students and $100 for chaperones

February 15- $100 for students and $100 for chaperones

March 14- The rest of the balance will be due for the students.

**Parents we have entered the 2nd Nine Weeks of school. All grades for the first Nine Weeks have been submitted. Parents please stress the importance of classroom participation as well as Practice Sheets. Some grades will reflect non participation and lack of practice sheets. This will reflect in number/letter grade and conduct.

Report cards distributed on Monday, October 23, 2007.

Early Release Day: Wednesday, October 18, 2007.

Practice Sheets are due every Monday by the end of the day. (Practice sheets are 15% of the students grade).

Parents and students Cooper Middle School Orchestra Winter Concert will be on Thursday, December 6, 2007. This will include all grades 6th, 7th, and 8th. Please refer to the Orchestra handbook forthe appropriate attire. Please begin to prepare for the concert now so that items are ready by the concert date.

Fundraiser Delivery Time is Fast Approaching!!

Where: Cooper Middle School Orchestra Room

When: 4:30-7:00PM  (Parent volunteers are needed!! Please report by 4:00PM) Contact me as soon as possible.

**Arrangements must be made for the pick-up of items. We the Cooper Middle School Music Department are not responsible for any items left behind.

** Items cannot be transported home with a student by way of the school bus!!

Congratulations to the 8th Grade Orchestra for a job well done on their first Fall Concert!

You worked very hard and I am extremely proud of YOU!

1 concert down and many more to come. Beginning Monday, October 15th, 2007 we will begin to prepare for our holiday concert which will be here in the Cooper Theater at 7PM. This concert will feature 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Orchestras.
