Lemonade Stand

You are going to see how good of a business owner you can be by running a lemonade stand (a simulated lemonade stand).  You are going to find the profit of each day’s sells then report your total profit to me before leaving class for the day.

**Remember to find the profit of one day you subtract the end of day sells with the amount of money you had after buying your supplies.**

If you are found on any other website other then the one I have instructed you to go to you will no longer be allowed on the computers.  Instead you will be given a desk assignment.

Preparing for 8th grade

I made a book the students can use to study the perfect squares in preparation for 8th grade. As a class we will review the answers to the perfect squares tomorrow.  The agreement about the extra credit for studying this summer is in the book.

I have attached two copies of the "Perfect Squares".  One is formatted for legal paper while the second is formatted for letter.

Students were given the Spring Break Assignment today in class.  Students were given 15 index cards so they could make their 15 flash cards they are to use to study with over the break.  Also students were shown how to play Integer War with playing cards.  I have attached a soft copy of the handout that explains everything including how students are to earn credit for studying.

Enjoy your break; hope to see you well rested and ready to finish the year off right.

Students had a great time with International day.  In math students did Pass Port through Africa

activity.  Students that did not complete the activity in class were told to finish it for homework.  I have attached a soft copy of the activity for anyone who would like a copy.

Students were able to make sure they had all the correct answers in their Slices & Shadows reference book.  I have attached a power point of the correct answers for each of the seven 3-D shapes in the book.

Look at the posting on March 24 for sample test questions and a copy of the Slices & Shadows reference book.

March 24

Today the students were given the opportunity to practice answering the questions that will be on the Unit 7 Test this Thursday.  If time allowed some periods were able to go through the problems twice.  Students could have taken notes on the questions in their Slices & Shadows Reference book.  This book can be used during the Unit 7 test.  The Slices & Shadows Reference book will be turned in after the students complete their test.

I have included my power point of the test questions.  The multiple choice answers that are on the power point will not be the same on the test so it is important for the students to understand what the questions are asking and the correct answers rather than A, B, C, or D.

Also I have attached a soft copy of the Slices & Shadows Reference book.  If you print, it requires legal size paper.  The pages are not in the order as they were when I passed them out in class but the pages do have number at the top right hand corner to help assist you if needed.  You will need to draw in the shape and nets of each of the figures in the book.  If you have problems come see me for a copy of the shapes and nets (no soft copy).

Feb 9 - 11

On Monday we began on Unit 6, Values that Vary.  Students received a unit 6 letter that had 6 vocabulary terms on it.  They were to write the definitions in their own word and study those terms for 15 minutes (Monday night).  In class students took the unit 6 pre-test and made a word map of the GPS that will be covered in the unit.

On Tuesday I help introduce the students to the concepts of direct and inverse variations (proportions).  I discussed the example on page 314 & 315 in the textbook and worked out problems 1 and 4 on page 315.  The homework on Tuesday was to do both sides of a graphing worksheet.

Today, Wednesday, I let the student try completing problems #2, 3, & 5 on page 315 in the textbook.

Today we went over how to solve word problems using proportions.  I have attached a copy of the worksheet.  I did 3 in class and for homework they are to do 3 on their own.  I will collect this assignment tomorrow.  I expect the students to have 6 out of the 9 problems worked out and in some cases 7 out of the 9.  They will earn two grades from this assignment, a class work grade (35% of over all grade) and homework grade (10% of over all grade).

HW:  Do 3 problems on your own from the word problem worksheet.
