Jan 31st

Today we discussed how the two word problems were to have been worked out on the back of the assignment Inverse, Direct or Neither?  The students need to understand that they are going to get more complicated word problems like those that they were given and will have to solve them on their own.  After that the students were given the assignment Name that Graph, which is going to count as a class work grade.  So students only had time to start on the assignment today, I collect the assignment before they left the classroom.  All students will be given more time tomorrow in class to complete the assignment.  I am even going to give students 5 to 10 minutes at the beginning of the periods tomorrow to ask questions about the assignment, Name that Graph, before they complete it and turn it in. 

2^nd Period:  This class period is ahead of the other periods and has had two days already to complete the assignment Name that Graph.  So students that were unable to complete it today have to complete it for homework.

Jan 30th

Today we compared Direct and Inverse Variation.  Students that had their foldable were given a cheat sheet to help with Unit 6 concepts.  Students are still able to get this cheat sheet as long as they bring in their foldable tomorrow.  The rest of the period we went over the assignment Inverse, Direct or Neither? (front only).

Jan 27th

Students took a timed Integer & Combining Like Terms quiz.  If time allowed we went over the results.  Then students worked on the top missed questions from the Unit 5 test.  Each student was to complete the assignment in class for a class work grade.  Those students the earned low test scores had a chance to increase their score by 10 points if they did the class assignment correctly.  At the end of each period we went over the answers and I took questions.  Everyone was to have turned in the work!

Jan 26th

We discussed the answers from their homework and characteristics of Direct Variation.  Then we moved onto Inverse Variation.  Students finished an assignment on Inverse Variation which gave examples of the characteristics of Inverse Variation.  At the end of each period students were given an example of a Direct & Inverse Variation situation from the real world.

Jan 25th

Today we started on Unit 6: Values that Vary by talking about Direct Variation characteristics.  Students did three problems together in class and was given time in class to start on their homework assignment.

Attached is a copy of today's assignment and the Unit 6 parent letter that tells about what is going to be taught in this unit.

After grading the students’ Take Home Quizzes, I have decided to push the Unit 5 test back to next Tuesday, Jan. 24^th.  Today I went over last night’s homework and any questions about the Take Home Quiz the students asked.  I gave the students a second chance at showing what they know about dilating figures.  All students received a copy of Changing Shapes II.  Students who earned an A on the Take Home Quiz do not have to do the assignment at all.  Students that earned a B have to do the back (Unit 5 Quiz).  Students that earned a C or lower have to do both sides of Changing Shapes II

Jan 18th

At the beginning of class, all students were to have turned in their Take Home Quiz and Dilation on a Coordinate Plane.  After which we discussed how to find the answers to all the problems on the Take Home Quiz.  I will try my best to get all the quizzes back to the students tomorrow so they may make corrections (quizzes that have less than an 80% can be corrected to increase the quiz grade). 

Then as a class we went through the assignment Similar Triangles.  Students were to have taken notes on this assignment. 

At the end of the period students were given Practice with Scale Factor.  I went through number 7 with the students.  The rest of the problems they should know had to do if they think the problems through. 

Tomorrow morning I have tutoring @ 8:15 a.m., come if you are still having trouble with dilations.  This Friday will be a test over Unit 5.

Jan 17th

At the start of each class period I took questions students had about their Take Home Quiz.  I did not work out any of the questions but assessed them in how to calculate the answers correctly.  So I have decided to give the students ONE MORE NIGHT to complete the Take Home Quiz.  If the quiz is not turned in tomorrow points will be deducted. 

Then I gave students about 30 minutes of class time to complete the Dilation on Coordinate Plane assignment.  Students were given two choices after the 30 minutes: to turn in what they had completed or finish the rest for homework & turn it in tomorrow.  Students can turn in the assignment tomorrow without it affecting their grade but I will not accept it after tomorrow. 

The last part of class I introduced the students to the relationship between a figures scale factor, perimeter and area.
