Unit # 4 Parent Letter

Dear Parents,

Below is information regarding Unit 4, Flip, slide, & turn. Look for future newsletters.

Students will be able to:

• Demonstrate understanding of translation, rotations, and reflections.
• Given a figure in the coordinate plane, determine the coordinates resulting from transformations.
• Perform basic constructions using a compass and straight edge.
• Recognize that many constructions are based on the creation of congruent triangles.

Vocabulary

Bisector: A bisector divides a segment or angle into two equal parts.

Congruent: Two or more geometric figures that have exactly the same size and shape. The symbol for congruent is

Construction: A geometric drawing that uses a limited set of tools, usually a compass and a straightedge.

Parallel lines: Two or more lines that are coplanar and do not intersect. The symbol for parallel is

Perpendicular lines: Two or more lines that intersect to form a right angle. The symbol for perpendicular is

Reflection: A type of transformation that uses a line that acts like a mirror, called the “line of reflection,” with an image reflected in the line. (flip)

Rotation: A type of transformation in which a figure is turned about a fixed point, called the “center of rotation.” (turn)

Translation: A type of transformation where a figure is slid horizontally, vertically, or both. (slide)

Transformation: Movements of geometric figures.

HOMEWORK FOR THIS WEEKEND! NOVEMBER 12 - 13

Hello Students!  Greetings Parents! We started a New Unit in Class today, "Flip, Slide, Turn". In this unit we

will need compasses and rulers. Please bring your compass and ruler to class on Monday.

Oh, how could I forget, finish your Geometric Pictures that we began in class at home. Don't forget to include all of the following  with at least 2 examples of each:

Extra Credit 

To recieve extra credit, color and label your picture.

 

 

 

Alternative assignment to be completed after Unit #3Post-test

Students have been assigned p. 9 + 10 in the WORKTEXT which is Simplifying Algebraic Expressions (Combing Like Terms).

Overview for the Week of November 7 - November 11, 2011

Hello Students! Today we  reviewed coeffiecients and monomials in our warm up.  We also worked on our study guides for our Unit 3 Test, to be given on Thursday, November 10, 2011.    PLEASE REMEMBER THAT DATE!   Until we meet again you should be working on the last part of the study guide come with questions and answers on Wednesday, I look forward to seeing you then!
