8th Grade Reading
Welcome to the New School Year 2008-2009!
Hope you had a relaxing and memorable summer. This school year will be equally memorable as you prepare for high school another building block towards your future.
Do not forget your Summer Reading due on September 2, the day after Labor Day.
Enjoy the first reading project "Treasure of Lemon Brown" that is lively, entertaining and filled with characterization - understanding the different stages of reading and writing that will prove useful in doing well on the CRCT Test.
Parents, encourage your children to do well, stay focused, and get help from the teachers.
See you at Open House on August 26.
If you missed Open House, you missed the opportunity to meet your child's new teachers and to get familiar with the new programs and resources available for your child's success at Cooper.
Check out the school's website for some of these programs.
Encourage your child to read at home for fun and literacy development. Simple and time efficient ways to increase literacy development:
1. Ask your child what book he/she is reading.
2. Inquire about classes and ask your child to explain what he/she is learning.
3. Tell stories about what happened to you today.
4. Listen to books-on-tape while you are driving.
5. Turn off the television and have everyone read for at least 15 minutes everyday.
6. Make sure your child has the 3 B's:
1. Books to read
2. Book rack
3. Bed table lamp
