No correct answer for this week's math ? of the week

So far, there have been no correct answers to this week's question. Keep trying. If there are no correct answers by Friday, we will carry the question over to next week.  Here is a hint:  probability is expressed as a fraction (ratio), decimal, or percent.  Read the problem carefully. Notice the phrase "without replacement"? that means that once a ball is selected, it is NOT placed back in the box, so the total number of balls in the box changes, doesn't it? Wow, that was a HUGE hint!

Math Question of the Week for May 4-8

Red and green balls 2 Here is the question of the week:

A box contains 20 red balls and 40 green balls. Four balls are randomly selected from the box without replacement. what is the probability of selecting a red ball followed by a green ball, then another red ball followed by a green ball?

First correct answer wins $2.50. All answers must be submitted by 4:00 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2009. Good luck!

Vertex edge graph  This week we will continue to review for the upcoming EOCT which will take place of May 6 and 7. The testing is scheduled to take place in MM Lab 1 during our class period on both days. After the testing is done, we will continue to work on our Acc. math I standards that we have not completed.  We will also try one more performance task and hopefully this one will work out better. We'll see. Anyway, you can download it below.

System of linear equations This week we will continue our study of systems of equations. We will look at various ways to solve the systems and then we will look at special systems. After this week, we will look at systems of linear inequalities. These topics are very important in order to prepare you for Acc.  Math I next year, so it is imperative that you grasp these concepts. School is NOT over, folks! We still have ground to cover. Hang in there, and please, please come to class prepared. We will have over final benchmark test over the Math 7 curriculum. I will probably give it in two parts:  Part I on Friday, May 8th and Part 2 on Monday, May 11th. Your weekly guidelines are below and they include your homework assignments as well as some handouts you will receive in class. Remember, I will give you one copy of handouts and if you lose them, you must reprint them from this blog.

School's outWow! Don't we wish that school was already out for the summer? I know, I feel the same way. We have worked very hard this year and have covered so many concepts. But hang in there--school is NOT out for the summer yet! And I must teach right up until almost the last day. And we will have homework right up until the last week of school. Speaking of homework, your homework for the rest of the school year will come from your  BLUE WORKTEXT WORKBOOKS . We will not use the red worktext workbooks again, so you can leave them at home. Also, please take your Know-it Notebooks home as well. Please check out this website that has probability games:

Hey, I know we are finished with CRCT testing, but SCHOOL IS NOT OVER! We don't go to school to just take a test, we go to school to learn and think. I teach right up to the end of school. We will play games on the last day of school (maybe even the last two days of school). But up until then, let's stay focused and ready to learn. And, please, please, please, bring pencils and paper!

We also have to take our final benchmark test. I know, I know, that is the last thing you want to do right now, but it must be done whether we like it or not. So I will give Part I of the benchmark this Friday, May 8th. School is almost over so hang in there! You are almost 7th graders!!!

Georgia EOCT Thank goodness that CRCT testing will be over after Monday! Now we have just one more hurdle--getting ready for the Math I EOCT. The test will be given on May 6 & 7 and will be an online test. I will not be present during the testing but I will see you in class each day after the test. We will spend class time each day between now and the EOCT reviewing major concepts. I think that the best way to review is to use the COACH Math I EOCT review books. Some of you borrowed these books from me. If so, please bring them to class each day. I do have copies in class for those people who did not borrow copies. The homework will come from the COACH books but please remember that you may not write in the books. I will need to collect them after the EOCT is completed. Attached are your weekly guidelines.

The imaginary unit is written in this way: i. I will give you a few handouts in class this week and they may also be downloaded from this blog. Also, we will be working with our purple textbook this week and possibly next week as well, so please remember to bring it to class each day.

I also want to help you review Math 8 concepts that you may need to review before the CRCT testing next week. Please let me know what you need help with. Your weekly guidelines can be downloaded below.

Oops! My bad!--Question of the Week problem

Oops  I messed up! When I posted the question of the week, I FORGOT to leave it open for comments! Sorry! I have had one correct response submitted to me on paper, so I do have a winner already. But in the spirit of fairness, I will now open this post up for comments and I will take one additional winner who posts the answer as a comment to this blog. Sorry for the mix-up.
