Oct 29-Nov 2--Math question of the Week

Here is the question:

When school ends at 2:30 p.m., Jacob starts to walk home at a rate of 3 miles per hour. If his brother leaves school 5 minutes later and walks at a rate of 3.6 miles per hour, at what time will he catch up with Jacob?

This week I can only award a prize to the FIRST correct response received no later than 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov 1, 2007. Post your answer as a comment to my blog.

By the way, for my last question of the week, the correct answer was 73. Some of you responded 71, but remember that 1 is not a prime number, so 71 could not be correct.

Math Question of the Week--Oct. 15

This week has to be a little different--I will not be here on Thursday or Friday so I will have to announce the winner and award the prize on Wednesday, Oct 17. The first person to submit the answer by posting the answer as a comment to my blog by Wednesday, Oct 17th by 9:00 a.m. will win $2.50 which you can use to buy a chicken biscuit on Friday (or not).

Here is the Math Question for the week of Oct 15:  I am a number who is greater than 40 and less than 90. I am proud to be a prime number. My ones digit is also a prime number and so is my tens digit. If you subtract my ones digit from my tens digit, the answer is NOT 2. What number am I??
