Sorry Math 8! I forgot to download your Weekly Guideline Sheet this week, so here it is!
Attached are the weekly guidelines for my Accelerated Math I class. This week you will need to bring your Geometry book every day. Also, you will need a protractor and ruler w/cm.
Attached are the weekly guidelines for Math 8.
Attached are the weekly guidelines for Accelerated Math I. Until we receive 2 extra copies of our Geometry textbook, I cannot issue the books to the class. So we will work from handouts this week.
Thank you to all the parents who attended the parents' meetings this week for Accelerated Math I students. I held a session after school on Thursday, Nov 1 and then repeated the session Friday morning, Nov. 2 for those parents who could not attend on Thursday.
I discussed our pacing guide. I pointed out that we are behind since we are since on Unit 2 and should have begun Unit 3 already. I do feel confident that we can catch up during the next unit and I hope to be back on track by the beginning of the 3rd nine-weeks, which will begin in January, 2008. Unit 2 is very important and will form the foundation for the rest of this year in Acc. Math I as well as for future math courses. So I believe that it is better to take a little longer and make sure that students master these important concepts.
I also discussed how important it was for every students to come to school prepared with homework completed as assigned. Also, while I can do my best to teach the students Math, I cannot teach them to have a strong work ethic. That has to come from them. They must be willing to work hard to do well in this class. Even if they have never had to study for tests before, it will be necessary to do so in this class. In general, we have had a little too much socializing this year. I understand that social relationships are very important to 8th graders, but we must maximize the amount of productive time in class if we are to keep on the pace that we need to be on.
Finally, I talked about our on-line textbook resources and tutorial videos that are available to each student. I have registered each student on the the Holt website. Each student has his or her own user name and password that they can use to access the online resources. Please ask your child to show you the online resources.
Thanks,
Andrea Winders
