Here are your weekly guidelines for this week
The following is a short biography of Pres. Woodrow Wilson, our 28th President. His story proves that if you work hard and don't give up, you are capable of overcoming disabilities and become successful. I thought his story was inspring:
Thomas Woodrow Wilson, the 28th President of the U.S., was born in 1856. He was one of four children. Despite having an educated father, who was a minister, and an attentive mother, Wilson was a terrible student who didn't learn the alphabet until he was 9 years old, and he couldn't read until he was almost 12 years old. His teachers all thought that he was "slow". Historians now think that Wilson had a form of dyslexia.
His parents were supportive of Wilson, even though they thought him a "dolt" and a "lost cause" when it came to book learning. Instead, they encouraged his learning through alternative methods. The family would spend Sundays studying the Bible and traveling. His parents would encourage Wilson to speak about things he saw in great detail in order to develop his communication skills. This ability allowed Wilson to develop his speech and debating skills in his later life that led him into politics.
Wilson loved to learn, and he taught himself shorthand to compensate for his lack of handwriting ability. He had the determination and self-discipline to want to succeed, and despite his learning disability, Wilson became the first president to earn a doctorate degree.
Though he never was able to read well his entire life, Wilson became a professor and later was elected President of Princeton University. He became Governor of New Jersy and was elected as President of the U.S. in 1912. His accomplishments before the US entered WWI awarded him the Nobel Prize in 1919. This remarkable man, who had so much trouble reading his WHOLE life, yet accomplished for much, died in 1924.

Also attached are your weekly guidelines for Jan 14-18. Some of your homework is in your textbook and some is in your WorkText Workbook. If you have lost your workbook, you must purchase another one for $10.00.
Math 8 students--Most of your homework assignments will come from your WorkText Workbooks this week. Remember, I told you to take your workbooks home and leave them there so that you would always have them handy for homework assignments?? I HOPE you followed my advice. But if you have lost your workbook, you need to let me know so that I can order you a new one. You will have to pay for it though, and I think the price has gone up--it will be more than $10 to replace your workbook.
Attached is a pdf file of the WorkText workbook. You can click on the link and download the file, then go to the page where the homework appears and I THINK you can print only that page. The file is BIG, so don't print the entire thing!
Happy New Year! Welcome back to Math 8. We will be very busy over the next 18 weeks getting YOU ready for high school math. Attached are our weekly guidelines for this week, including homework assignments. I will also post a copy of the weekly guidelines on the whiteboard directly beneath the flag. So, if you are absent, be sure to check this blog and/or look at the copy in the classroom to get your missing assignments. Remember, it is YOUR responsibility to get your missing work, NOT MINE or Mr. Wilcox's.
Here is the math question for this week. The first correct answer submitted by Thursday, Jan. 10th @ 4:30p.m. will win a chik-fil-A biscuit (or $2.50):
My car can travel 25 miles on 1 gallon of gasoline, and Ms. Watkins' truck can travel 20 miles on 1 gallon of gasoline. We want to take a trip and drive both of our vehicles. How far can we travel if we have $225.00 to spend on gasoline? Assume that gasoline will cost $2.50 per gallon.

Happy New Year, students! I hope you had a wonderful holiday and, hopefully, you are ready to work hard and get ready for High School!
Our next unit will be "Quadrilaterals and Angle Properties of Polygons". After this unit, we will be finished with Geometry for awhile, and go back to Algebra. Yea!!!
In this unit, we will: a. Determine the sum of interior and exterior angles in a polygon; b. Understand, use, and prove properties of and relationships among special quadrilaterals such as: parallelograms, rectangles, rhombus, square, trapezoid, and kite.
We studied interior/exterior angles and transversals last year in Math 78, but I will do a brief review. It would be helpful if you would try to review properties of angles before class, though.
Also, I will download some of the work packets that we will be working on. As always, I will give you a copy in class, but, if you lose it (DON'T!), you must download another copy.
