Segment_proportions Attached are your weekly guidelines for this week. Please note that some of your homework assignments will be in your WorkText workbooks. Please let your WorkText workbooks at home and just carefully tear out the pages that have been assigned for homework and bring them to school.  Also, many of you are coming to class without pencils, paper, books, etc. Please, please, please be prepared!  Thanks!

We have a Winner!!

Congratulations to Devin Brown! He was the first person to correctly answer the math question of the week. Here is the question with the correct solution:

Most Pizza for the Money

Which pizza gives you more for your money, a 12-inch-diameter round pizza for $10.95 or an 8-inch-square pizza for $7.49?

Solution

The 12-inch pizza. You end up paying $0.097 per square inch for the round pizza, instead of $0.117 as for the square pizza, or roughly $0.10 versus $0.12.

Accelerated Math I--Additional Info for this week!

I forgot to attach the vocabulary word list for this unit. You should make flashcards for these word. Put the word on the front of the card and the definition and picture (when possible) on the back of the card. The vocabulary quiz over these words will be on Monday, March 10, 2008. You should turn in your flashcards for a grade before the quiz. You can use your textbook and the following website to find definitions for these words.

Accelerated Math I Weekly guidelines for 2/20-2/22

Another_george_washington Monday, Feb. 18th was a federal holiday to celebrate President's day--the birthdays of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. This is a picture of George Washington. The story has always been told that George Washington had wooden teeth. That is probably not true, but now historians think that he may have had animal teeth as his false teeth. That sounds gross to me; I think I would rather have wooden teeth. We should be thankful that we have access to good dental care in this day and age so that hopefully we won't have to worry about false teeth!

Here are your weekly guidelines. We will be in the computer lab on Thursday, Feb 21 and will work on the Binomial Distribution powerpoint project that is linked below.

Math 8 Students--Movies and Set Theory Project

Windblow Math 8 Students! Did you blow off the Movies and Set Theory Project?? We did not receive very many projects, but the ones we did receive were mostly very well done. If you did not turn in the project, we will give you another opportunity to turn it in and receive partial credit.  Right now, if you didn't turn it in, you have a zero entered in the gradebook. Since this was entered as a project grade, it was worth 35% of your grade, so receiving a zero will seriously impact your progress report grade. If you decide to turn in the project, it must be turned in by Thursday, Feb 21, 2008. After that time, we cannot accept any last projects. Ask Mr. Wilcox or me about the project if you have any questions.
